Can we get rid of Ansible after moving the digital collections to Heroku? If so, how soon?
Things we have to keep
We will still need Ansible , at least in the short term, to do the for the following:
Building ArchivesSpace (see issue #1167).
However, it’s worth noting that the Ansible build for ArchivesSpace was never really properly finished.
If we move to a hosted solution for ArchivesSpace and turn on the web search front end, we can almost certainly get rid of this part of AnsibleS3 bucket management (see issue #1023). Terraform might be a better option than Ansible for this, howeverWe may want to use Terraform for this instead.
Building the management server itself. Post-Ansible, the managemement server is of dubious importance as long as we can make sure all our remaining Ansible scripts can be run from some other place – e.g. developer laptops.
Currently the only place from which we can run Ansible scripts. If we can run Ansible from our laptops, we can get rid of the management server.
Building and maintaining the Voices in Biotech servers.
